In April 1992, the Serbian attack on Bosnia began. Among those trapped in Sarajevo was Ervin Rustemagic, an agent for renowned comic artists in Europe and the USA. When his apartment and office were destroyed in the bombings of the city, he and his family took refuge in the Holiday Inn, from where journalists from around the world reported on the seemingly inevitable demise of the city. Throughout this time, they sought ways to escape the violence and death that plagued the city. Rustemagic kept in touch with his friends worldwide via fax, sharing the horrors of the war and the difficulties and fears faced by his family. Based on this correspondence, Joe Kubert depicts the experiences of a family fighting for survival in a completely destabilized part of the so-called civilized world.
