Community-oriented support (Community Care) is a highly discussed topic as a target for the modernization of disability assistance. Against the backdrop of the current disability policy strategy of the European Union, Laurenz Aselmeier analyzes the origins and manifestations of support systems for people with intellectual disabilities in three countries: England, Sweden, and Germany. The discussion draws on comparative welfare state research to explore the inhibiting and facilitating factors that community-oriented support encounters in three different welfare systems (liberal, social democratic, conservative).
