Pevny wrote his first plays when he was barely sixteen years old. In 1968, his first play, Flipper, premiered at the newly founded Café Theater behind the Graben, directed by Götz Fritsch. More structural plays followed. The young Pevny always sought to push formal and content boundaries, as seen with his Rais, which plays on nine stages simultaneously and addresses the life and lethal actions of the legendary contemporary of Joan of Arc, Gilles de Rais, in a kind of spoken opera. Pevny's works have always been closely tied to theater creators and venues, such as the café and ensemble theater, the WLT, and in later years, the echoraum. However, his works can also be found on conventional stages, such as the Akademie and Volkstheater in Vienna. Through the Alpensaga, he was able to, as he says, afford the luxury of not having to write every play he conceived.
