About the author: Charles Baudelaire was born in Paris in 1821 and died there in 1867. An unfortunate childhood marked by the early death of his father and his mother's remarriage. Barely of age, he squandered his father's fortune as an urban dandy and was thereafter constantly in financial trouble. From 1845, he worked as an art critic with a visionary sense: he translated Poe and De Quincey and introduced Richard Wagner's music to France.
