Product details

Since the recent financial crisis, the magic of the market seems to have faded. The neoliberal project has lost its image of being the only option, and thus the seemingly natural dominance of the market has become a contingent phenomenon. Since then, questions about the origins and breakthrough of neoliberalism have emerged with new urgency. How did it come to be that market logics have become the central organizing principle in an ever-widening range of areas, including politics, everyday life, relationships, and identity concepts? The starting point for examining these questions is historical experiences of crisis. The authors of the anthology view these as critical junctures where neoliberal reform proposals have been offered and implemented—or have failed. They explore historiographical uncharted territory and investigate the question of whether and how this has occurred.
