In the early 21st century, engaging with music without digital technologies is inconceivable: the computer plays a central role in both the reception and production of music. Specialized hardware and software are now widely available, and there is no longer a qualitative difference between a stationary and a portable music studio in the form of a notebook. Specialized applications and new musical techniques have fundamentally changed the work of composers and musicians, leading to new creative possibilities and music styles with their own unique aesthetics. There are various applications between traditional notation and new methods derived from digital essence, such as musical programming: these involve sound recording and processing, sound synthesis, and the automated control of musical processes.
