In 1950, architects, monument conservators, and art historians hurriedly documented the surviving structure of the war-destroyed Berlin Palace. While parts of the building had already been demolished, the group, known as the "Scientific Active," had only three months to make modifications, create a salvage register, and prepare measurement plans. Over 5,000 photographs were taken before, during, and after the demolition. The book highlights the cultural and political context and analyzes the events based on the preserved records and documents of the "Active." Additionally, a comprehensive catalog compares the once-salvaged fragments with those of the Berlin Palace that remain today.
