The term controlling has recently gained renewed attention in connection with concepts such as risk management, Basel II, and rating. In an environment that is constantly changing at a rapid pace, the demands on corporate management are increasing. The use of efficient controlling systems, which enable decision-makers in companies to make rational decisions and thus steer the company in a goal-oriented manner, has become essential. This book consists of two parts. The first part explains the theoretical framework of controlling. In this context, both the function of controlling and its organizational design are discussed. The function of controlling is primarily viewed in terms of the coordination between planning and control on one hand and information provision on the other.
