It focuses on the everyday experiences of police officers and the cultural frameworks derived from them that shape their professional identity. While police culture views the organization as a modern administration and service agency, police officer culture emphasizes the community of danger, operational events, and situational management. Police culture operates with visions and is outward-facing, whereas police officer culture works with traditions and is inward-looking within the police force. Cop culture is often subculturally influenced, particularistic, and physical. Nevertheless, it is not entirely disconnected from the official police culture. Understanding both levels allows for a new comprehension of the functioning of the state’s monopoly on violence in the modern rule of law.
