Since the end of the Cold War, there has been an intensified discussion in Germany regarding the social responsibility of companies and their civic engagement, in light of the declining effectiveness of the welfare state and the increasing strain on ecological systems. Matthias S. Fifka examines the extent to which corporate civic engagement differs between Germany and the USA, and to what degree a transatlantic transfer of corporate citizenship is possible due to the varying social, economic, and political conditions.
