Taken from authentic sources by Charles Lyall in 1894, this work launches a series of uniforms representing the armies at Waterloo in 1815. Charles James Lyall was one of the classic English uniform artists at the beginning of the 20th century. He compiled numerous series of British, Indian, and various European armies and eras. His works can be found in major uniform collections, such as the Anne S. K. Brown Collection in the USA. In this 1894 work, the appearance of the British Army, as well as all the arms and key regiments that participated in the famous Battle of Waterloo in 1815, is depicted across 75 plates. Each unit is covered on one or more plates, reflecting various ranks. The staff and special groups are also included. The plates are annotated by the two editors, Markus Gärtner and Markus Stein, based on current research in the field of uniforms.
