Product details

Shortly after the financial crisis reached its first peak in early summer 2009, Jesuit Antoine Derride and philosopher and conceptual artist Christoph Zehntner engaged in discussions at the Swiss Institute in Rome about the specific role of art in the ongoing process toward the sought-after optimum in human coexistence. This book addresses the end times in the sense of Kojève and Fukuyama, where Hegel's world spirit is reflected in the mirror: How much responsibility does freedom demand? It is about this very responsibility that will be necessary to prevent another, possibly final catastrophe. And art? Born from the spirit of critique, it utilizes the freedom that is rightfully its own and granted in civil society, realizing itself in perceived social responsibility. Thus, it is capable of acting in an apocalyptic manner.
