The approach stemming from the so-called cultural turn is characterized by the use of a specific vocabulary that is attributed universal explanatory power. Here, concepts are turned, performed, constructed, and deconstructed, with the notion of culture being employed as a theoretical all-purpose tool. When applied to questions of human knowledge, the results are at best trivial, often absurd, and frequently a regression to primitive thinking. The process of how knowledge is generated, how it can be evaluated in terms of truth, and why it is counterproductive to let it dissolve in the fog of culture is discussed in connection with a wide range of contemporary and classical literature.
