Product details

Cuno Amiet (1868-1961) was one of the innovators of Swiss painting at the beginning of the 20th century. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he met Giovanni Giacometti in 1887. Together, they continued their studies at the Académie Julian in Paris, where they encountered Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard. In 1906, Amiet joined the artist group Die Brücke. Amiet's body of work primarily includes landscapes, gardens, portraits, and still lifes. He was able to translate nature into independent images composed in partly vibrant colors. Throughout his life, he was particularly preoccupied with the theme of harvest: "Fruit harvests," he once said, "have always attracted me, just as earlier painters always painted Madonnas." This illustrated book presents the three fruit harvests created in 1912, along with the associated sketches, studies, and designs, as well as the later reinterpretations in the artist's subsequent work. Additionally, all known paintings by Cuno Amiet from this thematic field are depicted.
