Product details

The origin of a wine is attributed with a significant influence on its quality. In many countries, systems for controlled designation of origin have been developed. The French system serves as a model, closely linked to the terroir of the wines. The term terroir refers to a complex and wine-specific combination of factors that influence the sensory quality of a wine. Traditionally, the parameters closely associated with origin, such as climate, soil, and topography, are counted among these factors. The focus on origin as a key criterion for the quality of a wine is very appealing to consumers. This has led to an increasing use of terms related to terroir in wine marketing in Germany in recent years. The aim of this study was to investigate the extent and manner in which terroir or individual factors affect wines of the Riesling grape variety. In addition to the sensory examination of wines, the use of analytical methods was a focal point. Of particular interest were terroir-related differences in the aroma profile, which could be linked to the sensory differences of the wines.
