The bus manufacturing industry was in full bloom at the beginning of the sixties. New models with technical innovations and plenty of chrome were constantly hitting the market. Bus operators faced the dilemma of choosing how to equip their fleets with new rolling stock, as the selection was vast. However, challenges were also emerging. The competition was fierce, which unfortunately meant the end for many manufacturers. In the mid-sixties, the Association of Public Transport Companies established a specification document, based on which manufacturers Büssing, Mercedes, MAN, and Magirus were to develop the new standard bus. Using almost exclusively the same components, the 11-meter VÖV bus went into series production at Büssing in 1968. Overall, it was a very economical and modern vehicle with excellent driving characteristics. However, it also brought a certain monotony in the seventies.
