Product details
For his unfinished philosophical treatise "De vulgari eloquentia" (1303-1304), in which the Italian vernacular is placed above Latin for the first time due to its naturalness, Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) chose the Latin language instead of the vernacular, unlike his masterpiece, the "Divina Commedia." In 1529, Gian Giorgio Trissino published an Italian translation of the treatise, which had been lost until then. This volume combines Dante's Latin original text with Trissino's version and presents a new German translation alongside both versions to facilitate the work with this central text of Italian studies, especially for students of Romance languages, in the future. An introductory chapter on the principles of text edition precedes the main content.
