Darmstadt is a small city with around 140,000 inhabitants, located in the heart of the Rhine-Main area: a region that has almost grown into an urban landscape between Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Frankfurt am Main. It has not only managed to establish itself economically, but it has also preserved a unique character stemming from its tradition as a residence and cultural city, despite being largely destroyed during World War II. In a densely populated environment, it has remained the city in the forest. It is shaped by the picturesque Bergstrasse with its castles and mild climate, the hilly and forested Odenwald, and the flat Ried stretching towards the Rhine. The city itself offers a wealth of cultural activities: theater, a literature house, concerts, and much more. Thus, it serves as the cultural hub of the region.
