Product details

The crime series "Tatort," which airs on Sunday evenings, has become a moral school for the nation, attracting an average of eight million viewers. Since 1970, over 800 episodes have been produced by the ARD institutions, and almost always, the concept of the "Other" plays an important role. The "Other" exists within each of us and can be found everywhere. It is not only people with a migration background who can personify the "Other," but every member of society. A deep analysis of three selected "Tatort" episodes reveals that the "Other" is not merely constructed as a reproduction of stereotypes in the series. Nevertheless, the scripts could still take this phenomenon into account in a more nuanced way. The crime series "Tatort" could better utilize its potential. "Having a German passport and being German are not the same," is a recurring theme in each of the three episodes. Migration and integration appear here as central points of reference for the "Other.".
