Product details

Antonino Ferro develops a new conceptual system for analyzing the bipersonal field, which is the focus of his interpretative approach. While traditional analysis in the Freudian tradition concentrated on the conscious and unconscious effects of the patient's biography and external relationships, and the Kleinian approach focused on the inner world of unconscious fantasies, Ferro places interpersonal relationships and intersubjectivity at the center of treatment. Following in the footsteps of Wilfred Bion and supported by Kurt Lewin's field theory and its interpretation by Madeleine and Willy Baranger, the author describes a narratological theory of psychoanalysis, where instead of strong interpretations by the analyst creating breaks, there are shared narratives constructed by both the patient and the analyst—deciphering meanings is replaced by the construction of new meanings. This process is illustrated with a wealth of clinical material from the treatment of mostly severely disturbed children and adolescents.
