Evil describes terrible acts and omissions and refers to a symbolism of the impure, dark, and inferior, as well as the harsh realities of scarcity and competition. It is reflected in catalogs of vices and in expressions of envy, cruelty, hatred, the desire for destruction, and fanaticism. The second part addresses forms of establishing evil through habits and institutions, the evil in collective complicity, in exclusion and marginalization, excessive punishment, and despotism. There are evil regions and attractions, as well as evil times like wars. Administrative mass killings target both humans and animals, and evil also proliferates in the war against evil. The third part examines counterforces to evil, alongside preventive measures.
