Product details

Two literary rediscoveries about women's fates in the early 1920s that have lost none of their stirring impact a century later. After the publication of her second novel "The Brandmark" in 1920, Hennings was regarded as one of the most important writers of her generation. The radical and self-destructive honesty of the girl Dagny, who restlessly wanders through German cities and is at times forced into prostitution, has been compared to the novels of Hamsun and Dostoevsky, as well as to the "Confessions" of Augustine and Rousseau. Even today, the novel reads as a poignant testament to a troubled life that remains relevant. The 1923 narrative "The Eternal Song" is the fevered monologue of a dying woman, which connects in many ways to "The Brandmark." Almost forgotten by literary history.
