Product details

The art theft by the National Socialists continues to engage museums and the art market, as the suspicion of confiscations and forced sales weighs heavily on many artworks. This book contributes to the clarification: Hanns Christian Löhr analyzed the inventories from the years 1938-45 of Hitler's art collection, which he had compiled for a museum in Linz on the Danube. Index cards, lists, and photographs of several thousand artworks allow for a detailed analysis of his collecting behavior. The study thus demonstrates that the collection was created with significant assistance from the German and international art trade. Additionally, there were contributions from confiscations of Jewish property and from forced sales.
