Abstract: On July 22, 2016, nine people were shot and at least 32 were injured at the Olympia Shopping Center in Munich. The shooter, David S., obtained his weapon illegally through the Darknet. At the latest after this event, the Darknet has become a recurring topic in the media. Through reporting and discussions on social networks, the question arises of what the Darknet actually is. Due to the difficulty of tracing activities in the Darknet, the trade in illegal goods, services, and substances naturally increases. However, the Darknet is by no means a lawless space. Therefore, the following paper aims to answer the question: The illegal trade in the Darknet and the possibilities for regulation.
