The endlessly vast blue tells the story of the aging baby boomers. This is the generation that believed they would never grow old, only to suddenly realize how relentlessly time ticks away. Nevertheless, the novel is not a tearful endgame, but rather a rock-and-roll road novel that is anything but sad. What can happen when two adventurous sixty-year-olds set off as if they were 18 again? On their trip south, they first pick up a young transgender person, then a feisty ex-girlfriend. They find themselves in one bizarre situation after another, partly fueled by their alcohol and drug consumption. But ultimately, their defiant youthful attitude cannot shield them from the realization that their time is not infinite. Their wild journey in southern France culminates in a rather turbulent and surprising ending. The novel is narrated in the playful tone of a buddy movie, thriving on the escapades of its protagonists, their unabashed, cheeky dialogues, and their sassy, provocative comments. The rock music of the 70s and 80s also plays a significant role and serves as a constant companion on a journey that literally leads into the blue.
