We are no longer just at the beginning of the much-cited information age; we are right in the middle of it. On one hand, technological development is advancing rapidly, while on the other hand, due to (attempted) terrorist attacks, not only America but also Europe, and thus Austria, is increasingly becoming a surveillance and preventive state. This leads to every single Austrian being stored in a multitude of databases. For this reason, this book addresses the often neglected topic of the fundamental right to data protection, despite its ever-increasing relevance. The book consists of four parts, which first provide an introduction to the subject, then present the Austrian data protection law in detail, and finally conclude with the specific issues of video surveillance and the internet. Initially, the technical design and various aspects are discussed.
