Product details
The author and forestry scientist Heinrich Mayr (1854-1911) presents the resin of coniferous trees, its formation, significance, and extraction. The systematic extraction of tree resin is done through tapping. This involves creating artificial wounds by scoring the bark, allowing the resin to flow out and be collected in a container. The trees used include pine, larch, and the sandarac tree. Fossil tree resins, such as amber, are obtained by searching resin-rich areas, through prospecting, or mining. The most well-known natural resin product is rosin, which is primarily derived from the resin of pines and spruces and is used in many products, such as adhesive for bandages, in chewing gum, and for treating the bow hairs of string instruments. Rosin is the solid residue that results from heating coniferous tree resin.
