This is the earliest work of the founder of Gestalt therapy, in which the transition from orthodox psychoanalysis to the Gestalt therapeutic approach is evident. Psychoanalysis emphasizes the significance of the unconscious, the sexual drive, the past and causality, free association, transference, and repression; however, it underestimates and neglects the function of the ego and the drive for hunger, the present and goal-directedness, concentration, spontaneous reaction, and re-evaluation.
