The book evaluates the legal consequences of German juvenile criminal law using available empirical data and its own surveys. It answers the question of a possible tightening of sanctions with evidence from empirical research. The result is a plea for a moderate juvenile criminal policy that counters populist calls for harsher measures with rational arguments. According to the findings, the population supports the special legal treatment of juveniles and young adults. The maximum penalties of juvenile criminal law are considered sufficient, while detention with military discipline is rejected. A combination of repressive measures and educational tools is advocated. Overall, the current legal approach to juveniles and young adults is highly accepted, which may be due to the nature of the survey conducted.
