This introduction to "Das Kapital" differs from others in that it does not attempt polemically to claim a better understanding of this work than others. While it also outlines the overall argument, it places special emphasis on the third volume, adopts the rehabilitation of the pure labor theory of value as developed in the first volume, and examines the relationship between the analysis of the capitalist mode of production and the investigation of the possibilities for its abolition in Marx's "Critique of Political Economy." The insights of the "New Marx Reading" and "Monetary Value Theory" are incorporated, but they are turned on their head. The goal of this introduction is achieved when readers become curious about the original work.
