This work expands the understanding of César Franck's unique compositional thinking and promotes an approach to the content of his music. Through a semantic analysis of his piano works, a series of meaningful elements are identified for the first time, including not only Franck's unique motifs but also the predominantly musical-rhetorical figures of the Baroque period. This allows for an exploration of the rich symbolic and emotional world of the composer. At the same time, the connection of one of his greatest works - the cycle 'Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue' - with the Holy Scriptures, specifically with the life and suffering of Jesus Christ, is illuminated. The book contains numerous annotated musical examples and is recommended for musicologists as well as composers and performers.
