Mira Lobe was born in 1913 in Görlitz, Silesia. Her talent for writing was evident from her school essays. She wanted to study and become a journalist, but as a Jew in Nazi Germany, this was denied to her. Therefore, she trained as a machine knitter at the Berlin Fashion School. In 1936, she fled to Palestine. There, she married the actor Friedrich Lobe, with whom she had two children. From 1950, she lived in Vienna, where she passed away on February 6, 1995. Mira Lobe wrote nearly 100 children's and youth books, for many of which she received awards and accolades. Among her most famous works are "Das kleine Ich bin ich" (1972), "Valerie und die Gute-Nacht-Schaukel" (1981), "Die Geggis" (1985), "Die Omama im Apfelbaum" (1965), and "Die Räuberbraut" (1974). "In my opinion, the deeper meaning of writing for children is that they should be brought to self-determination. Creating is beautiful, simply beautiful; it makes you feel alive. After love, it is the second-best feeling.".
