The Italian veterinarian, agronomist, and anarchist Giovanni Rossi founded the settlement of Cecilia in 1890 in the depths of the southern Brazilian hinterland. Scarcity and deprivation, self-organization and free love, success and failure: Giovanni Rossi is filled with his idea - but in his report, he sugarcoats nothing. With cool passion, he recounts the coexistence completely devoid of social organization. Rossi's texts describe the long journey from Italy to Brazil, the daily life and development of the anarchist colony Cecilia, its problems and successes, its way of life, and its end in 1894. Free love holds particular significance for Rossi: it is about liberating women from patriarchal hierarchies. The freedom of anarchy pertains not only to politics and economics; Rossi consistently extends it to the emotional realm.
