Every mathematics lesson raises the question of how the teacher can effectively provide students with access to the subject and how the goal of fostering mathematical learning processes can be promoted. One way to achieve this goal is through the use of learning games. Playing is enjoyable, relaxing, brings a sense of achievement, and strengthens community bonds. Especially in childhood and adolescence, it is a driving force for development and a fundamental condition of life. For this reason, elementary education should particularly aim to convey foundational concepts in a way that connects with children's behavior and meets students where they currently are. Three practical examples illustrate this meaningful connection between learning and playing in mathematics education.
