Product details

All of Gertrud Kolmar's poems in a critically annotated three-volume edition. Gertrud Kolmar (1894-1943) is regarded as an equally significant lyricist alongside Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and Else Lasker-Schüler, yet her works, which were preserved from destruction during the National Socialist era by the efforts of her closest relatives, have remained relatively unknown to this day. Her importance was recognized early on by authors such as Walter Benjamin, Max Rychner, Ina Seidel, and the publisher V. O. Stomps; as a lyricist, she was able to establish herself exclusively in Jewish cultural circles starting in 1936, supported among others by Kurt Pinthus, Jacob Picard, and Erich Lichtenstein. During her lifetime, only three volumes of her extensive poetic work were published: "Gedichte" (1917), "Preussische Wappen" (1934), and "Die Frau und die Tiere" (1938).
