The global networking of computers, institutions, and people is already a reality. In his film "The Net," which was awarded at the European Media Art Festival in 2004, Lutz Dammbeck traces the origins of this development. Since the 1940s, cybernetics, multimedia art, LSD experiments, and systems theory have shaped the fascinating vision of an open, global, and interconnected world society. One of the most well-known opponents of this technological society is the so-called Unabomber, who shook the USA from 1978 to 1995 with a series of bomb attacks on prominent scientists. Dammbeck has uncovered impressive documents about the development of cybernetics and military defense strategies. He has conducted interviews with key figures of the cyber elite: publisher John Brockman, and computer scientists Stewart Brand and David Gele.
