Product details

The East Frisian cattle originates from the coastal regions of northern Germany and the Netherlands and, in contrast to the Holstein breed, is smaller, has lower milk production, but is more fertile, longer-lived, hardier, and has better fattening performance. Until the 18th century, cattle of various colors were bred along the North and Baltic Sea coasts. It was only after 1750 that the black-and-white color pattern became established. In 1878, the first breeding association for the black-spotted lowland cattle was founded in East Friesland, and subsequently, East Friesland and East Prussia became the most important breeding areas. The breed spread throughout northern and central Germany. The author of this volume describes the history, the development of breeding, the type of East Frisian cattle, their utility characteristics, breeding, husbandry, feeding, and rearing, as well as dairy farming.
