The political history of the Netherlands has been characterized by a high degree of continuity compared to other European states over the decades. However, this picture has changed significantly: especially the widely noted developments and events of recent years have shown that Dutch politics has been in a phase of great upheaval for some time, the course of which is being followed with great interest abroad.
