The Kato principle of being there is for all people who work with others: teachers, trainers, therapists, doctors, caregivers, coaches, etc. Being there means supporting the other person on their path, providing assistance when they want it, fully accepting them, and not diverting them from their journey. Otherwise, it would not be being there, but rather leading. Being there is never one-sided. The other person also accompanies us. Our attitude is one of gratitude: being there for each other, accepting and loving the other as they are. Being there is respecting the other and their path. We can never know where their path will lead them, and therefore it is not our place (among many other reasons) to instruct, educate, or improve them.
