This introduction is a guide designed to help first-year students and undergraduates navigate university life. Not every institution can afford to offer its newcomers an introductory week or a full-semester foundational course. Often, beginners are left to fend for themselves. While many places have introduced preparatory courses that provide content introductions, they do not address practical questions related to studying art history. Previous introductions to the field of art history offer an overview of the methodology and issues within the discipline, but they also lack practical assistance for the everyday challenges of studying. This introduction aims to fill that gap. The individual chapters address the difficulties that commonly arise based on experience. The structure is oriented accordingly.
