Four young men seemingly come together by chance during their military service in the Yugoslav People's Army. Their leader, Dimitrije Donkic, gives everyone animal names and calls his group the "Animal Kingdom." What initially appears harmless changes when Misa joins: he was significantly involved in the student riots in Belgrade in 1968, but only the Tiger knows this. In recordings he leaves behind to investigate a murder, he is troubled by the question of whether and by whom Misa was unmasked. The Tiger increasingly loses clarity about his own role in the deadly game, and soon he loses all certainty as the author of the story. The students' protest seems manipulated, and the victory of the powerful appears unstoppable: "Everything ultimately confirmed that the future was no longer what it used to be, and that even the past was not entirely safe from change.".
