In philosophy and social science, a connection between the current form of society and mental illnesses is often postulated. While it is epidemiologically disputed whether the phenomenon discussed as "burnout" or "exhaustion syndrome" corresponds to a real increase in mental illnesses, the term exhaustion expresses a dynamic of acceleration phenomena that gives it a diagnostic significance of the times.
