The first part of the British colonies in North America succeeded in violently fighting for their independence from the overseas settler societies of the Europeans. The fascinating rise from a small colony in 1607 on the edge of the Native American-dominated Virginia to the largest industrial power around 1900 is outlined in eight phases.
