The aim of the investigation is to expand the concept of knowledge beyond the traditional understanding of knowledge. It specifically challenges the reduction of knowledge to propositional knowledge, which ties the concept of knowledge to the concept of truth, asserting that knowledge claims can only be made in statements, judgments, or assertions. Without questioning the relevance of this concept of knowledge, a pluralism of forms of representation is developed as forms of knowledge through an explication of scientific validity claims, with particular attention given to conceptual and metaphorical distinguishing knowledge, heuristics, and the acts of representation in philosophy, literature, and art. The pluralism advocated here is not relativism.
