Product details

This study presents a reinterpretation of Wolfram's "Parzival," taking into account discourse-analytical and gender-theoretical questions. Wolfram's experimentation with different concepts of femininity and masculinity is understood as a public engagement with the modes of thought and argumentation of the immediate literary tradition (Heinrich von Veldeke, Hartmann von Aue, Chrétien de Troyes). For the first time, this comprehensively addresses the thematic dominance of "gender relations" in the non-religious narrative literature of the 12th and 13th centuries. The focus of the analysis is on the Gawan books of "Parzival": Through detailed textual analysis, it is revealed how Wolfram deconstructs the previously literarily conventionalized models of inter-gender relationships in the act of storytelling.
