The accounting regulations applicable in Germany are governed by the HGB and aim to protect creditors, particularly in the individual financial statements. To this end, a distributable profit that can be withdrawn from the company is determined, taking into account capital maintenance and the principle of prudence. In contrast, IAS/IFRS accounting prioritizes the protection of investors, both equity and debt holders, along with providing a high volume of information to give investors useful information for their investment decisions. Compared to commercial law, this leads to the principle of prudence being of lesser importance in IAS/IFRS financial statements, while the principle of accrual is strongly emphasized.
