Jürgen Habermas' work "Factuality and Validity: Contributions to Discourse Theory of Law and the Democratic Rule of Law" (1992) deserves special attention for two reasons: First, it is one of the major works of this significant philosopher, in which he presents a new justification of the principles of the democratic rule of law, while also summarizing his social theoretical and ethical thinking (theory of communicative action and discourse ethics). Second, this work is an outstanding contribution to contemporary legal philosophy, as it systematically develops an innovative theory of law that attempts to reconcile the requirement of the factuality of law with its normative validity. The significance of this work for current social, legal, and political philosophy suggests that it should be dedicated a volume in the "Classics" series.
