For a long time, legal analysis has overlooked the rhetorical perspective. The idea of a logically precise, scientifically grounded legal discovery was pursued, with concerns that the practice-oriented approach of rhetoric would lead to arbitrariness. However, recent studies show that rhetoric has reliably shaped the acquisition of law and legal doctrine since antiquity. As the historical contributions in this handbook demonstrate, jurisprudence has been organized rhetorically under the conditions of publicness and professionalism. Therefore, not only legal text creation and presentation, argumentation, and the foundations of education are rhetorical, but also what is referred to as legal rhetoric.
