Product details

The volume offers a fundamental introduction to the works of the Austrian writer Leo Perutz (1882-1957). The ten contributions each focus on one of Perutz's novels, ranging from his debut work The Third Bullet (1915) to the posthumously published book The Judas of Leonardo (1959). They provide information on the genesis of the texts, describe their structure and narrative design, and develop suggestions for their interpretation. The studies of the novels are complemented by the previously unpublished novella The Sad Adventures of Mr. Guidotto and a comprehensive bibliography of his works and their research. However, the collection of essays not only delves into Leo Perutz's oeuvre but also introduces an approach to literary texts that combines structuralist and hermeneutic traditions. The individual contributions are consistently based on the same underlying principles.
