In the mid-1990s, as research conditions in Russian archives improved, empirical studies on Soviet occupation policy in Germany and the Soviet Military Administration as a central institution began in the Federal Republic. This anthology presents the most important projects in the form of reports on experiences, introduces the involved institutions, summarizes the results, identifies deficiencies, and outlines perspectives. Thus, it not only provides an initial assessment of the research but also highlights the opportunities for international scientific cooperation in the often complex German-Russian relations.
